Mr & Mrs Smith
In the movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Angelina Jolie plays the role of “dangerous femininity” in many parts of the movie. Angelina Jolie who plays, Jane Smith, in the movie works for a Spy agency that specializes in killing people. Jane Smith has 5 female assistants that work with her in the deadly business. Jane has no mercy for others which are show in many scenes. In one scene she admits to killing upwards of 100 people which is way more than her husband, John Smit who is played by Brad Pitt, who works at a cross town assassin company that rivals Jane’s company. Angelina is also portrayed as the dangerous femininity as it shows that she doesn’t belong in the house as a typical wife because for 5 years she acted like she made dinner but in reality somebody else made it for her to present at the dinner table.
Through out the course of the movie Jane and John learn that their spouses work at rivaling assassin companies and their bosses what them to kill their significant other. When Jane Smith receives her orders to kill her husband she gives him few warning before she tries to kill him in several different situations such as poising him, killing him in and elevator, and putting a bomb in his jacket. Jane Smith portrays the dangerous femininity well as she puts her job before her husband and acts as the aggressor to kill him first. Angelina plays the role of the femme fatal as she intelligent, beautiful and has no mercy towards her male counterparts. Although towards the end of the movie she comes to terms with her husband to try to defeat the people that are trying to take them down.

south park
I choose Cartmen, the fat and obnoxious kid from the TV show South Park. This character has some stereotypes associated with him such as being an overweight American kid he loves to eat food, he is a teenager who knows everything, and he also has the role of the big intolerable elementary school bully.
Cartman is just like the typical middle class American overweight kid who is always shown eating and orders his mother to serve him with food. Cartman’s mom is always trying to help him out but, he plays the role of the teenager who thinks he knows everything in the world and doesn’t need to take any advice from his elders. Cartman also plays the school bully as he tries to boss his friends and school mates around believing that he is superior to his friends.
The show South Park is entirely based on satire and irony so the character of Cartman fits into the stereotypical fat, know it all teenager who needs no guidance in life from others. Cartman has not really influenced my decision of how I think about white, overweight, teenage Americans that like to bully over people. But every time I view the character Cartman, it reminds me of some of my friends and former class mates that Cartman is made to be based off.

Bishop nixes Trinity Prep play

As I was looking through my local paper I came across an article that was about my former high school. Trinity Preparatory School, which is a small private Episcopal school in Orlando was going to perform the play "La Cage Aux Folles" at the school's auditorium. This play premiered on Broadway in 1983 and features "a gay couple and actors dressed in drag." This play also turned into the movie Birdcage, which starred Robin Williams. The director of the performance Janine Papin, choose this award winning play so she could give a challenge to her excellent drama students.
Bishop John Howe, who is head of Diocese of Central Florida read about this play in the news paper and then contacted Trinity Prep's headmaster, Craig Maughan and told him that this play was inappropriate due to its sexual orientation. In the past Howe has been opposed to supporting gay rights such as appointing a gay Bishop and same sex marriages.
The cast was told that the play would not be preformed on Friday, hours before the production was scheduled to premier. Many people where shocked when the play was cancelled due to the contents, which are not really sexual. The members of the play are hoping that they will be able to perform the play at an off-campus location.
The issue of gay sexual orientation is a hot topic theses days as more and more people are becoming openly gay and as citizens of the US they too should have the same rights as others. People such as John Howe disagree with gay rights because of something that was written in the bible thousands of years ago. They do not accept the fact that over time society changes and that they too should be open minded to adapt to the changes. To help evoke these changes in society film makers produce controversial pieces that speak their mind. In this Multicultural film course we will see many films that come from different cultures and present controversial topics. We should be open minded to each of the films, because in this class we are supposed to elaborate and get the purpose of the film and judge the film to personal feelings.
